The Way I Work

Far from how I started out, these days, the candid approach is very much my thing - if you don't notice me much on the day, well, that's a good thing in my book. I'm not invisible, but I'm not in your face all day either - I call it "hiding in plain site". I do still make time though for a few family group shots, although the emphasis is on "a few" as I don't think I've ever seen a couple enjoy spending over an hour ploughing through an endless list of group shots! Ten or fifteen minutes usually does it. Of course, you don't have to have any at all if you prefer not to.

And then there's the "couple shoot". This is also very short and very spontaneous and I don't like to plan ahead too much and overthink things here - the more natural the better :-). I certainly won't ever have you holding a pose! But I will of course always have an artistic hat on to make sure the final image has that "wow factor". And I'll always be on guard, as very often the best shot is the one you don't know I'm taking!

My focus is very much on capturing the essence of the day - real moments not fabricated, moments that you can look back on and remember how it felt as well as how it looked.

I'm not keen on things like "fake" signing the register shots, "mock" cake cutting etc etc. I do shoot these moments of course, but I shoot them for real, so you get the "real" emotions, not some staged action replay. After all, all these "staged" moments are keeping you away from all the real stuff aren't they?

Of course, not everyone will buy into my approach and if tons and tons of posed shots are your thing, like the kind of stuff you see in wedding magazines, then I'm probaby not the man for you and there's hundreds of other guys who'll do that for you. If however, you're into what I do, and want to find out more about how the day pans out, then why not check out this post that I wrote for the blog.

On more than one occasion, I've been called a "photo ninja" by couples and I guess in a nutshell, that pretty much sums up my approach to the day and, hopefully, yours too.

“I don’t think there are words to describe how amazing this man is. He’s an absolute wizard with the camera. Mike has an eye for capturing the moments so naturally and beautifully creating memories and images you would have completely missed yourself. There should only be one photographer you should consider for your day and it should be this gent of a man. You hardly notice him in your space and around you throughout the day, his work is so seamless and he has you completely at ease. Thank you for everything”
