Falkirk Portrait Photography: Fiona & Scott’s Pre-Wedding Shoot at Callendar Park

Well, we had a couple of weather postponements but, I’m pleased to say that today, we did get to do Fiona & Scott’s pre-wedding shoot. An early evening shoot to boot, and what a glorious evening it was, late summer sunshine providing some perfect lighting conditions. We’d chosen to do the shoot in Callendar Park in Falkirk, just a short trip from where I’m based, the same for Fiona & Scott, who literally live around the corner from me.

Photography is always a challenge, enjoyable, but still a challenge. So many things to contend with – camera settings, lighting, composition, exposure…the list goes on. So, it really makes my job a lot easier when the couple themselves need very little direction from me. I don’t tend to go for an awful lot of rigid posing in my images anyway – I find it best to simply provide a little direction and then go with the flow, shooting what evolves from a situation. And that certainly was the case this evening – you can see it in the images – my job is to make sure I have my eye pressed to the camera and just shoot when the time is right. And let us not forget the contribution of Alfie the dog, who just adds that bit extra to every image.

Of course, it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t whip out the speedlites and do some flash photography – kept it to a minimum tonight though with all this glorious natural light around.

The guys are getting married very shortly in Linlithgow and it should be a great day if the pre-wedding shoot is anything to go by. Here are some of my fave images from the session, the whole set can be found in the online gallery (password required).
