Glasgow Wedding Photography:
Heather & Alastair at Oran Mor

More wedding photography today as I found myself at the wonderful splendour that is Oran Mor, bang in the heart of Glasgow’s West End. I’m here to photograph the wedding of a fantastic couple, Heather & Alastair. We had a bit of a laugh on their pre-wedding shoot back in September so I had a good feeling that it was going to be a great day…and that’s exactly how it turned out.

As usual, my day started (after parking the car…not easy in Glasgow’s West End on a Saturday) with the bridal preparations, taking place at the Hilton hotel across the road. I arrived to find hair and make-up just finishing up, so set about photographing the dress and other details as is customary. Done and dusted, it was back over the road to photograph Alastair’s arrival before scuttling back to the Hilton to photograph Heather in the dress…phew, who says this job doesn’t keep you fit!

Ceremonies can often be quite serious affairs and, of course, why shouldn’t they be as marriage is a very serious commitment. But I don’t think it hurts to inject a bit of humour in at times and there was certainly enough of that today. Looking at all the images of the ceremony that I shot, about half have someone laughing in them – great stuff…makes the images really “sing”.

Winter weddings can sometimes be a challenge in terms of the light outside, or lack of it, once it gets past 3pm. So, today, a few images aside, we’d decided to go for all the group and bride & groom shots indoors. Oran Mor has a great spiral staircase which was too good an opportunity to pass up on – these are some of my favourite shots of the day…hope you like them too guys.

As with all weddings, I always stay on until the first three of four dances in the evening – perfect for capturing the first dance and more. With that done, and around 800 images in the bag to be edited, I left everyone to enjoy the rest of the evening.

Here’s a selection of some of my favourite images from the day. The whole set can be found in the Client Area gallery as usual (password required).

It always surprises me with shots out in the streets, just how many of the public go about as though nothing out of the norm is happening, like a bride crosses the road every day of the week!

Don’t ask! Think it was something to do with Spiderman wasn’t it guys?

The staircase that just had to be used.

Bit of a “nutty” theme going on with the table names.

The beautiful setting that is Oran Mor.

Apparently, Alastair was a mascot for the day at Partick Thistle, an honour usually reserved for kids!

Any more room for one more photographer?
