End of a really busy week and my third wedding in the last six days and, believe it or not, the glorious weather just keeps on coming. Today I’m with Laura & Ian for their wedding at the University of Glasgow followed up with their reception at the fabulous Oran Mor. It wasn’t that long ago that we did their pre-wedding shoot and, if memory serves me correctly, it was a bit misty and murky that day, so today’s weather is most welcome.
As usual, I kick off the day with Laura at her parents house for the bridal prep shots before heading on over to the University. The ceremony itself is being held in the grand surroundings of the University Chapel and, as with most ceremonies of this nature, I’m only permitted to stand about half way down the building, so out with the long lens. Group shots follow and then we head into the cloisters for the bride & groom shots. I love shooting in and around the cloisters, such a fantastic backdrop for creating some great images and the light’s so changeable from one day to the next, you never know what you’re going to get until the day itself.
Hot footing it round to Oran Mor, I arrive just before Laura & Ian to be piped into their reception, but only just! One thing about Oran Mor is that it’s also a popular live music venue and Peter Hook (ex New Order) is playing here tonight. While on my break, I sat happily chatting to a couple about New Order and the like for a good 15 minutes (rather to my bemusement). Turned out that, having seen my cameras, the guy thought I was there to photograph Peter Hook’s band – he looked a little bit sheepish when I informed him that I was actually photographing a wedding upstairs. That said, I have photographed bands before and, Peter, if you ever read this and need some new images done next time you’re in Scotland, give me a shout mate :-).
