Well, for the eagle eyed amongst you, or those that have tried to visit this post over the last day or two, you may have noticed that it disappeared for a while. Gremlins in the works I’m afraid, or that is what the techy people told me anyway. So here I am having to post it all over again, so apologies if the wording is not quite the same as the first time around.
Great day today photographing Rhona & Stephen’s big day at Airth Castle which, for once, was just a short drive away for yours truly. Even though I’m based nearby, this is the first wedding photography in and around Falkirk that I’ve done for a long while. Such is the nature of the internet these days, I’m more likely to be photographing weddings in Edinburgh and Glasgow than I am locally.
Anyway, enough of that, back to today, and what a glorious start to the day it was, with bright sunshine blinding me. Short lived though I’m afraid, more of which later. I started off as usual with the bridal preparations, with Rhona exhibiting the usual mix of nervousness and excitement. Glass of champagne at this time always helps; no, not for me, for the girls…and they duly obliged. The guys were in good form too when I caught up with them in the bar, so it seemed a shame not to take a few shots in and around that area, plus the fact that it had started to rain outside…not again I thought, as memories of Saturday’s wedding washout came flooding back, no pun intended.
With the ceremony completed and the rain stopped, we headed outside the Castle for the group shots. Nearing the last of the groups, the dark clouds loomed yet again and my plans for the bride & groom shots were scuppered yet again. On to plan B and shots inside which, thankfully at Airth Castle, is not a problem, as there are plenty of indoor locations to use. I did however manage to persuade the guys to venture outside for a few minutes as I’d really wanted to do some flash lit images under one of the arches, as I thought these would make some unusual eye catching shots.
Thankfully, the rain did ease eventually prior to the evening reception so we did manage to get some shots in front of the Castle, which by then was bathed in beautiful evening sunshine.
For me however, the day was not quite done, as I’d been asked to stay on for a while into the evening and set up a “photo booth” for the guests (especially the evening guests) to come over and have their photo taken – great idea guys. I had a lot of fun taking these and so did your guests from what I could see. 10pm signalled my departure for the night and a couple of beers at home 10 minutes later!
