Wedding Photography at the Braid Hills Hotel : Karen & Paul

For my first wedding of a busy October last year, I was out at the very fabulous Mansfield Traquair for Katy & Eddie’s big day. I mean, take a look at the shots below guys at this venue…stunning :-). And set right in the heart of Edinburgh too.

I think it’s fair to say that most couples book me due to my “laid back” (if that’s the right word) approach to wedding days. You’ll never hear me barking orders or using a megaphone (trust me, I’ve seen it!). I’m a more of a “in the background” kind of guy (almost ninja like), looking out for those “moments” throughout the day that really capture what the day was all about, and every wedding day is about different things.

Sure, there is a point in the day where we will take some time for a few family group shots and a short bride & groom shoot but it only “short” – the general running order of weddings in this country usually dictates that there’s not much more than an hour to get everything done, if that. But that all suits my very observational approach anyway, so all is good with the world :-).

Wedding Photography at the Braid Hills Hotel Kaitlin & Raymond

April was a busy month for me, with five weddings, two pre-wedding shoots, album collections and whole host of meetings with new couples looking to book :-). And, after two weekends on the bounce shooting two weddings on both Friday and Saturday, it was nice to end the month with just the one on the weekend.

Kaitlin & Raymond’s big day took place at the Braid Hills Hotel in Edinburgh, which was to be my second visit there. Up until the day itself, I hadn’t actually met either of the guys but, as I always say, to me that’s not really an issue. We’re all busy people these days and making the time to meet up beforehand can sometimes prove tricky. But, I like to think I’m quite a sociable chap (space for comments below guys if you don’t agree LOL) and can get on with pretty much anyone under any circumstances :-).

Despite the often darkening skies, the rain did hold off for the day allowing us to get outside for the formal group shots and then, after dinner, a short bride & groom shoot, blessed with some of those moody dark skies that you all know I love :-).

Wedding Photography at Braid Hills Hotel | Suzanne & Garry

Recently, I had my first ever visit to the Braid Hills Hotel in Edinburgh. It’s not often these days, having been shooting weddings for around 8 years, that I get to go to a new venue, and it’s always a bit exciting just to see what it’s like from a photography perspective. The reason for me being there – Suzanne & Garry’s wedding day :-). I’d only met with the guys for the first time a couple of weeks beforehand when we’d chatted about what they were looking for from their photography on the day, and I could tell that we were going to get along fine.

Was great on the day to catch up again with Jonathon from Jonathon Fowler Photography & Videography, who was a last minute addition on videography. We’d last worked together on an elopement in Edinburgh with a couple from Singapore and even had to act as witnesses on the day – still one of the weddings that stick in my mind to this day.
