Wedding Photography at The CavesKara & Louis

Onwards today with blogging some new weddings, although when I say “new”, I mean “new” to the blog, but hardly “new”, as in I only shot the wedding recently – if only…but I am trying hard to get the blogging more up to date. But hey, it matters not too much when they’re all fabulous weddings to share with you and today, I’m totally delighted to be featuring another cracker…Kara & Louis’ big day at The Caves in Edinburgh’s Old Town.

For anyone that’s never been to The Caves, let me tell you that it is a truly unique venue, built as it is around some of the many caves that run through this part of town…but I guess the clue’s in the title LOL.

Whilst being very unique, The Caves is actually a tricky place to shoot – it’s dark (as you would expect) which requires for the most part using my own lighting to make sure that we can see everyone but…on the flip side, you don’t want to be going and lighting it up like Blackpool Illuminations, as it’s important to keep the dark ambience, so it’s very much a balancing act!

Wedding Photography at the Scotch Whisky Experience Lyn & Kevin

Everyone needs a holiday at some point, even us wedding photographers, and I’m just back from mine and raring to go again with more fabulous weddings to shoot and blog, and today, I’m totally delighted to be sharing with you Lyn & Kevin’s big day that took place at the end of May…yes folks, that gap between the actual date and the blogging date is getting wider!

For once, I had no bridal prep to shoot, so my day began at the very grand Lothian Chambers on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile for the civil ceremony before the short walk up the Mile to the Scotch Whisky Experience for the reception.

I’d shot a few ceremonies before at Lothian Chambers but the Scotch Whiskey Experience was, pardon the pun, a new “experience” for me :-)…and what a fabulously unique venue it is. The jewel in the crown is undoubtedly the Diageo Claive Vidiz Whisky Collection (yes, I got that from the website), housing over 3000 bottles of whisky – honestly, when you walk into the room, you are just dazzled by the amber glow…check out the image above.

Wedding Photography at the Braid Hills Hotel Kaitlin & Raymond

April was a busy month for me, with five weddings, two pre-wedding shoots, album collections and whole host of meetings with new couples looking to book :-). And, after two weekends on the bounce shooting two weddings on both Friday and Saturday, it was nice to end the month with just the one on the weekend.

Kaitlin & Raymond’s big day took place at the Braid Hills Hotel in Edinburgh, which was to be my second visit there. Up until the day itself, I hadn’t actually met either of the guys but, as I always say, to me that’s not really an issue. We’re all busy people these days and making the time to meet up beforehand can sometimes prove tricky. But, I like to think I’m quite a sociable chap (space for comments below guys if you don’t agree LOL) and can get on with pretty much anyone under any circumstances :-).

Despite the often darkening skies, the rain did hold off for the day allowing us to get outside for the formal group shots and then, after dinner, a short bride & groom shoot, blessed with some of those moody dark skies that you all know I love :-).

Wedding Photography at the Ghille Dhu Nina & Ross

When I was last at the Ghillie Dhu for a wedding back in October last year, I seem to remember using the phrase “if Carlsberg did weddings…” for that particular day. Well guys, there must be something in the air at the Ghillie Dhu as, drum roll please…I’m saying it again :-)…”if Carlsberg did weddings, it would be like Nina & Ross’s big day”!

Honestly, I don’t think I’ve seen a couple so happy on their big day…don’t think there was ever a part of the day where Nina wasn’t smiling…apart from perhaps the odd bit of direction from me when I was going for one of my more “moody” (if that’s the right word to use) shots…so my fault entirely LOL.

Of course, being in the heart of Edinburgh, on Princes Street, I couldn’t resist another shoot on the central reservation being buzzed by trams and busses! All in the name of a good shot though, and no one was harmed :-).

        Taryn & Ewan’s Wedding Album

So, a couple of week’s back, it was great to see Taryn & Ewan again as they stopped by the home office to pick up their wedding album. The guys were married last year with a legal ceremony on Seacliff Beach in East Lothian, followed up by the wedding day itself at the fabulous Ghillie Dhu in Edinburgh.

For their album, the guys chose one of Graphistudio’s “Original Wedding Books” with 56 pages and opted for the very eye-catching silver metal polish finish for the cover, complete with anthracite grey binding and a complimentary design box to keep it all in – I’ve tried my best but it’s hard in an image to get across how fabulous this cover looks :-).
