Wedding Photography at Dundas Castle | April & Callum

It’s been a few years now since I was last at the beautiful setting that is Dundas Castle, probably around four years I’d say..far too long. But, a few weeks ago, as Arnie says, I was back! The reason – April & Callum’s wedding day :-). And what a fantastic day it was, starting with a surprise for April and the girls as Callum had booked a limo to take them up to Dundas, and we’d exchanged a few “covert” emails to make sure I was at the house to capture the reactions as the limo arrived. Dundas had their own nice little touch as well, as after the ceremony the guys were presented with a lock and key to attach to a gate as a celebration of the 600th anniversary of the castle.

Dundas has so many brilliant locations for photography that, honestly, I could spend about 3 hours walking round with a bride & groom taking shots. But, of course, wedding days dictate that that’s not possible but we did, as is tradition, manage to get up on to the roof of the Auld Keep for some shots overlooking the Forth and it’s bridges, as well as a few on the turret. And, we rounded off the day with some night time shots in front of the floodlit castle and fountain, just before I headed off into the night.

Wedding Photography at Sherbrooke Castle Hotel | Laura & Kevin

Wedding no.3 of the year took me back to a place where I haven’t been since 2012, Sherbrooke Castle Hotel, for Laura & Kevin’s big day back in mid Feb. And, for once this year, the gods were smiling on us weather wise…well, as good as you can get in February anyway, with bright sunshine and, for the first wedding this year, no snow!

As usual, I kicked off the day with the bridal preparations at the venue and I was pleased to have caught Laura’s “pained” reaction during the hairdressing…it’s moments like these that I’m always on the lookout for and trying to anticipate as they make great images in telling the story of the day. In fact, this one picked up a “highly commended” award with The Societies last month :-).

Wedding Photography at Edinburgh Botanic Gardens | Rachel & CJ

It’s funny how things work out sometimes – there I was early November last year with no 2016 wedding until mid February and then, a few weeks later, I have two weddings booked in for January. Now, it’s not too unusual to get a booking just a few weeks before the wedding but to get two, and in January as well, highly unusual.

Rachel & CJ’s wedding was the second of my two January weddings and, wouldn’t you know it, for the second wedding in succession, there’s a dusting of snow kicking around. The guys were officially married back in the States (where they live) last summer I believe, but had decided to hold a reception here as well and chose the fantastic Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh to hold it. I’d been here a few times before (portrait shoots & pre-wedding shoots), but never for a wedding, which is quite a rare thing these days with hundreds of weddings under my belt I do tend to shoot mostly at places I’ve been before, so it’s always great to come somewhere new.
