“Barnbougle Castle” Wedding / Amy & Simon

wedding photography at barnbougle castle

Hey guys, another fabulous one for you today when, just a few weeks ago, I was back again at the gorgeous Barnbougle Castle, just outside Edinburgh, to shoot Amy & Simon’s big day!

In a break from tradition, the guys decided to go for a quick couple shoot in nearby South Queensferry, followed by all their family group shots back at the venue, prior to the ceremony. I’ve done this once before with a couple many years ago and think it’s a great idea, should your schedule on the day allow of course. And, given the heavy showers that peppered the day later on, the decision was naturally totally the right one!

With the formal shots in the bag, all that was left was for everyone to totally chill and enjoy the day and, as usual, I just drifted around and captured all the goings on in my candid, documentary style, save for a few more quick couple shots after dinner in the evening sunshine … and why not with such a beautiful location!

And, hold the front page won’t you, the guys were kind enough to share some lovely thoughts of their own for the blog …

We were drawn to Mike by his approach to documentary photography, and the result for us has been perfect. In Mike we found a brilliant photographer who is down to earth, subtle, oozes a passion for where he is and what he does, and always with a smile. Mike put us at ease from the very first moment we met on a pre-wedding call, and this continued into the day, and with all our friends and family.

We really enjoyed starting the day with Mike down at the Forth Bridges, a beloved location for us, to capture some initial snaps, and then head up to our home for the day, Barnbougle Castle, to meet our guests and begin celebrations. We had planned our group shots before guests arrived so we could all be together for the rest of the day, and really appreciated Mike’s flexibility to make the whole day work just how we wanted.

Mike documented our day perfectly, capturing so many special moments of joy, happiness, a passion for Scotland, a relaxed and loving vibe, and in the most magical location. We will remember our day with him for a long time to come, and cannae wait to have his work brightening up our days for the rest of our lives. Thank you so much, Mike! Sláinte!

Amy & Simon, it was great to be with you all on your amazing day and thank you very much for choosing me to shoot your big day! Here’s a few of my own favourite shots which I hope you all like.

Please feel free to leave a comment if you like … it’s very much appreciated 🙂 – there’s a comment box right at the end of the pics!

Looking for Barnbougle Castle Wedding Photography … or anywhere for that matter?

If you’re getting married (or know someone who is), then you may just like my “ninja style” (a couple’s words, not mine) low key approach to the day! Most couples tell me they didn’t even notice me for the majority of the day and that suits me … it is your wedding day after all, not a photo-shoot!

My style is very unposed, unfussy and focuses more on documenting your day rather than directing it. Minimal group shots (or even none at all if you prefer) and short couple shoots allow you spend more of the day with the people that matter and have a total blast! Find out more here about the way I work.

For the past three years, I’ve been recognised by the WPJA as Scotland’s top ranked wedding photojournalist, so you know you’re in safe hands :-).

I’m mainly taking bookings now for 2026 & 2027 but do still have some limited availability for this year too … but I do now only shoot one wedding per weekend so dates can be very limited during peak times. So do get in touch asap guys to check my availability.
