Wedding No.2 of the year for me today (not that I’m counting, of course) and I’m pretty close to home today for Lynne & Iain’s wedding at the fantastic Glenskirlie Castle – back home in time for Match of the Day me thinks :-). I can see that the weather’s not exactly going to be playing ball today so I might be relying on the speedlights a touch for some added sparkle.
I start the day as usual with the bridal prep shots, so it’s off to Lynne’s parents house just down the road from me. Detail shots are usually my first port of call – these don’t need to be dull and boring; in fact, it’s amazing what you can find if you just look around the room a bit. Take today for example, looking around, I spotted some “travel themed” boxes so just used these as a backdrop for the jewellery shots – far better than just placing them on a table (I think so, anyway).
With detail and bridal shots in the bag, it’s off to Glenskirlie where I catch up with the guys. One of the great things about today is that we’ve arranged to do a lot of the formal group shots pre-ceremony, leaving just a handful to do afterwards, meaning more time for those all-important bride & groom shots – it really does make a difference. Unfortunately for us photographers, the wedding day culture here (unlike in the States), is to cram all the key events of the day into just a few hours, and a large part of the time that we do get for photographs is often taken up doing family group shots – nothing wrong with that, of course, but it does mean less time for the bride & groom shots which, for me, are the most important of the day. So, no such problems today so thanks guys for making this easy for me.
I love the bride & groom shots – it really gives us a chance to get creative (and do a few more formal ones as well), and Glenskirlie is not short on spots for some great shots, be it the “love swing”, the spiral staircase, the gardens or outside the castle itself. Plus, as time allows, we even get the opportunity today to get some more “intimate” shots up in the amazing bridal suite, complete with its chain curtain, just crying out to be used somehow, so, of course, I oblige.
Lynne & Iain, you guys looked fantastic today and a big thank you for going along with my ideas and for making this a very easy wedding to photograph and a very enjoyable one too. Here’s just a few of my favourite images from the day.
