In the Footsteps of Burns
A Magical Wedding at the Brig o’ Doon House Hotel

It’s not everyday that I get the opportunity to photograph a triple Olympian, but today was such a day as I was delighted to be able to shoot Lee & Craig’s wedding day at the fantastic Brig o’ Doon House Hotel in Alloway. For those that don’t know, Lee is Scotland’s most medalled athlete and recently competed in both the 400m and 400m relay at the London Olympics.

The area around Brig o’ Doon is steeped in history – The Brig o’ Doon itself being a late medieval bridge used as the setting for the final verse of the Robert Burns’s poem “Tam o’ Shanter”. In this scene Tam is on horseback and is being chased by Nannie the witch. He is just able to escape her by crossing the bridge (over a running stream) narrowly avoiding her attack as she is only able to grab the horse’s tail which comes away in her hands. So, with that in mind, it would of course, have been very remiss of me not to do some shots on the bridge itself, which we duly did, along with a number of other fantastic locations in and around the hotel.

What a great day all round – in fact, looking at the info on my cameras, looks like I’ve shot more images today than at any other wedding that I’ve covered, all due to the many wonderful things that happened over the course of the day. Lee can sum it up better than I can:

“It was an inauspicious start to our Wedding day with heavy rain and wind all morning! Then at 11am – just as Mike arrived to start taking photos – the clouds parted and the sun split the sky… and it stayed like that for the rest (well most) of the day. We had an absolutely fantastic day and neither of us could have imagined it being so special or so much fun… and it really did go by in a flash.

Mike was quick and efficient with his photography and kept everybody right. Thanks to Mike we now have some brilliant photographs to remind us of our amazing day.”

Guys, thank you very much for choosing me to photograph your special day – here’s just a handful of images from the day that are some of my favourites.
