You’ve gotta love the good old British weather! One day it’s this and another day it’s that. Feels like this summer there’s been more “that” than “this”, “that” of course being rain. To be fair, I’d been quite lucky this wedding season with the weather – even on days where rain was predicted, I somehow seemed to dodge it, or it did indeed rain but while everyone was sitting down for dinner. Well today folks, my luck ran out.
Michelle & David were the winners of my “Win Your Wedding Photography” competition last year and we’d already done their pre-wedding shoot a few weeks back which went well, so naturally I was looking forward to today. Aside from a brief stop off en route to do the bridal prep shots, both the ceremony and reception were being held at St. Brigid’s Church and Church Hall in Newmains, venues that I had not been to before. The forecast did predict a chance of rain but, as usual, I thought we’d get lucky. I think the first inkling I had of what was to come was during the group shots, when I had to change the camera setting to accommodate an increasingly darkening sky.
No sooner had we started the all important bride & groom shots (probably no more than 10 mins), when down it came, and boy, did it come down. We quickly ran for cover back in the church which then became our location for all the remaining shots. In fact, so heavy was the rain that the guys even had to get a car to go the 100 yards or so to the reception, as even a short walk would have soaked you to the skin – I know, as I had to do that walk!
