Unusually, April this year was fairly quiet for me, with just the one wedding to shoot…although I did sneak away for a cheeky week in Cyprus too…hard to shoot weddings when you’re not even in the country I guess LOL.
Katie & John’s big day took place at The Caves in the heart of Edinburgh. Now, for anyone that’s been to The Caves before, you’ll know what it’s like. For those that haven’t well, let’s say it’s pretty unique, set as it is, unsurprisingly, amongst the underground caves that are a plenty in this part of town. And it’s pretty dark too, which does create a fair challenge when shooting – you need at least some flash to light the guys up…but go with too much and you’ll end up with it way too bright and losing the ambience…it’s a balancing act for sure! I was certainly glad I’d had quite a few weddings under my belt before the first time I ever went there.
Of course, apart from the uniqueness of the venue itself, being where it is also gives you the chance to hop up to the Royal Mile for a few shots…always one of my favourite places to shoot with the old world charm of the cobbled streets and also the many (slightly eerie) lanes that run of the main drag…always great for a dramatic shot or two :-).
