You know, I don’t do nearly enough as much portrait work as I would like. And I was thinking the other day about why that is. And, it struck me that it might just because I don’t advertise it on my website…dooohhh! So guys, I’ve now put that right and introduced two very different types of shoots – firstly, one for the girls, the “Covergirl Shoot”, all flashy lights and striking imagery and, secondly, the “Family Lifestyle Shoot”, on location portraits with a very natural feel. Perhaps something for the guys to follow soon – maybe a “Bond” style shoot, all cool and, well, “Bond like”.
So, wouldn’t you know it, no sooner had I shared the Family Lifestyle Shoot onto my Facebook page, than Kathleen contacted me to book a session for her family, which was where I found myself today, along with Andy and the girls, Mia and Kara. Believe me when I tell you folks that it was absolutely freezing today, so we did adapt the session slightly to do some indoor “studio” portraits first before venturing out into the cold.
For a while now, I’ve had a portable studio set up that I can bring along with me to create the “studio” look in your own home – all I need is enough space to set up the backdrop and lights and we’re off and running. I often find that children are more relaxed in their own environment rather than the sometimes sterile nature of a photography studio, so being able to bring the studio into their own homes is a real bonus and often leads to better results.
I really love getting out and about to do portrait shoots. There’s nothing better than using the natural backdrops that we have around and about us – there’s always something different around every corner – even things that you might usually just walk past without a second glance can work to good effect. We didn’t venture too far today due to the conditions, but even just the local play park provided us with a couple of cool backdrops for the shoot. You can almost feel how cold it was in some of these images – mind you, a little “warming up” in Photoshop didn’t hurt either!
