I think it was a few months ago that I received an email out of the blue from Daryl to check if I was free to shoot his wedding to Sharon in the 1st July. He went on to add that Sharon knew nothing about this, the idea being that he would propose in front of St. Giles Cathedral and then head straight into Lothian Chambers for the ceremony followed by some shots at some of Edinburgh’s famous landmarks. I like the sound of this, I thought – exciting prospect and, of course, it did cross my mind, “what if Sharon said NO”, so a slight air of danger as well!
The guys are actually from Singapore so it was only going to be the two of them and myself plus our videographer for the day, Jonathon Fowler. All very cloak and dagger to kick things off as Daryl had arranged to candidly meet up with Jonathon to get “miked up” before the proposal. I was there hanging around in front of St. Giles Cathedral trying my best (and probably failing badly) to look like a tourist with a huge camera and lens, ready to spring into action as soon as it looked like the proposal was being made. Certainly attracted some attention from onlookers as Daryl went down on one knee and did the decent thing to which Sharon thankfully said “yes”.
