Come November, I am always on the run-in and wind down towards the end of the year’s weddings and last year was no exception, with just the one wedding for me that month, but what a brilliant day it was shooting Gemma & Martin’s big day at Bo’ness Town Hall.
The weather did its best to try and disrupt the day when a snowstorm dsecended rapidly in the morning causing hazardous travelling conditions but, needs must and all that, I made sure I left a wee bit earlier to meet up with the girls at the Richmond Park Hotel in Bo’ness where bridal prep was taking place. Oddly, with less traffic than normal on the roads, I probably got there quicker then I ordinarily would have done – go figure!
With prep shots in the bag, I made the short hop along the road to the town hall where the rest of the day took place, primarily indoors due to the aforementioned weather conditions although, that said, we did manage to get outside for a short time after dinner for a quick nighttime couple shoot in the bandstand … and no one slipped in the snow (a miracle for me given my track record over the years).
Such a fabulous day! And, the guys were very kind (and quick off the mark) to provide a few kind words for me …
“Mike was wonderful to work with. Our wedding happened in a snowstorm and as a variety of comical issues piled up and increased our stress, Mike was a serene beacon. He left early to make it in plenty of time, took buttonholes to the groom, and worked around the weather to make sure we still got our beautiful photos.
As someone who hates having their picture taken, Mike’s approach was perfect and really tells the story of our day, from minor breakdowns in the morning of, to the kids on the dance floor putting the adults to shame.
The photos are stunning, with real movement and expression. Thank you!”
Gemma & Martin, thank you very much for choosing me to shoot your fabulous wedding day! Here’s a few of my own favourite shots which I hope you all like.
Please feel free to leave a comment if you like … it’s very much appreciated 🙂 – there’s a comment box right at the end of the pics!

Like what you see … want to book me?
If you’re getting married (or know someone who is), then you may just like my “ninja style” (a couple’s words, not mine) low key approach to the day! Most couples tell me they didn’t even notice me for the majority of the day and that suits me … it is your wedding day after all, not a photo-shoot!
My style is very unposed, unfussy and focuses more on documenting your day rather than directing it. Minimal group shots (or even none at all if you prefer) and short couple shoots allow you spend more of the day with the people that matter and have a total blast! Find out more here about the way I work.
For the past two years, I’ve been recognised by the WPJA as Scotland’s top ranked wedding photojournalist, so you know you’re in safe hands :-).
I’m mainly taking bookings now for 2026 & 2027 but do still have some limited availability for this year too … but I do now only shoot one wedding per weekend so dates can be very limited during peak times. So do get in touch asap guys to check my availability.
