Bit of a diversion for me tonight as I found myself at 20 Rocks in Falkirk to shoot a couple of bands. Music has always been a great passion of mine, in fact, if I had to choose between the TV and the Hi-Fi, the Hi-Fi would win every time! Some of my favourite images of all time have been of musicians past and present. Oh, how I wish I had shot the iconic image by Pennie Smith showing the Clash’s Paul Simonon smashing up his bass, surely one of rock’s greatest images ever.
Anyway, back to tonight. I’d recently tweeted that I was interested in photographing some local bands to expand my portfolio and was contacted by local band Johnny & The Giros who told me that they would be up for it and that they were about to play a gig at 20 Rocks. I learned that the Vigo Thieves were also on the bill that night, so got in touch and asked if they would also be interested. So, here we are. I can report that 20 Rocks was absolutely jumping tonight to these two bands, who both had amazing sets. For anyone that thinks that music begins and ends with X Factor, get yourself out and about and check out these two bands – this is what real music sounds like!
First up, here’s some images from the Vigo Thieves set. Images from the Johnny & The Giros set to follow in a separate post.
