If ever weddings were totally suited to the way I work, then Eve & Martyn’s big day at the fabulous Lochside House Hotel at the end of March would be right up there! What an amazing day to shoot, wall to wall of incredible moments to capture just as they happened with barely no intervention from yours truly! Just the way I like it.
Sometimes, I get questioned about my style (shooting style that is, not my fashion sense!). Like, “how can you be a documentary wedding photographer when there’s all these fancy couple shots too”. Well, here’s the thing – yes, I “do” couple shoots – most documentary photographers do. However, what I don’t do is pose the life out of it! I’ll see a great location, sometimes set up a light (for dramatic effect) and then let couples run with it – pretty much every image you see is what the couple did … not what I asked them to do, and that’s the key difference. The result – dramatic couple shots but still ones that reflect couple’s personalities; I hope so anyway!
With no prep shots required, my day started shortly before the ceremony and it was full throttle from then on, including a table dash and a set from the amazing Shades of Sax after dinner, through to the dancing in the evening, with Devotion Weddings on DJ’ing duty, as well as covering the MC duties throughout the day too … what a day!
And, hold the front page won’t you, the guys were kind enough to share a few thoughts of their own for the blog …
“We aren’t very good being serious when posing for photos so a candid photographer was the best way for us and Mike did not disappoint. On the photos that needed staged, Mike was happy to walk us through it all and was great at managing the huddled masses while being calm and kind.
Mike caught a lot of funny moments and people having fun. It’s those fun candid moments that we want to remember the most. And I don’t even remember seeing Mike there half the time, he must have been moving in the ether!
We would highly recommend Mike to capture all those amazingly memorable moments. I mean, the photos he uses on his FB page speak for themselves.”
Thanks you guys for those very kind words!
Eve & Martyn, it was great to be with you all on your amazing day and thank you very much for choosing me for your wedding photography at Lochside House! Here’s a few of my own favourite shots which I hope you all like.
Please feel free to leave a comment if you like … it’s very much appreciated 🙂 – there’s a comment box right at the end of the pics!

Looking for Lochside House Wedding Photography … or anywhere for that matter?
If you’re getting married (or know someone who is), then you may just like my “ninja style” (a couple’s words, not mine) low key approach to the day! Most couples tell me they didn’t even notice me for the majority of the day and that suits me … it is your wedding day after all, not a photo-shoot!
My style is very unposed, unfussy and focuses more on documenting your day rather than directing it. Minimal group shots (or even none at all if you prefer) and short couple shoots allow you spend more of the day with the people that matter and have a total blast! Find out more here about the way I work.
For the past three years, I’ve been recognised by the WPJA as Scotland’s top ranked wedding photojournalist, so you know you’re in safe hands :-).
I’m mainly taking bookings now for 2026 & 2027 but do still have some limited availability for this year too … but I do now only shoot one wedding per weekend so dates can be very limited during peak times. So do get in touch asap guys to check my availability.
