Christmas and New Year is very often a fairly quiet time on the photography front; not many people getting married at this time of year you might think? Well, not quite true and, to prove the point, this year, I had five weddings in the space of a couple of weeks around the festive period – no rest for Mr C this year. And, to start the proceedings, I was very honoured to be shooting the wedding of Zoe & Rory, kicking off at the magnificent settings of Fettes College before moving on to the Mansion House within Edinburgh Zoo for the reception.
One of the issues that you’ll always encounter with weddings at this time of year is the lack of daylight once we start getting past 3.30pm. Thankfully, the guys arranged an earlier than normal ceremony to allow for this, so we had plenty of time for all those important group and bride & groom shots before the light started to fail, even in the often murky conditions on the day. But that was all after Zoe had arrived for the ceremony in an Edinburgh Taxi, following a mix up with the bridal cars – personally, I kind of like the shots with the taxi in the background!
I’d only ever been to the Mansion House once before at Edinburgh Zoo, and that was for a Spring wedding. Edinburgh Zoo, however, is a very different place in the dark of winter! Walking up to the house with all my gear for the reception, all you can hear are random animal sounds…but you can’t actually see them…very spooky!
Zoe & Rory – a big thank you for choosing me to photograph your fantastic day. Here’s just a few of my favourite images from the day which I hope you like.
Please do leave a comment or two at the bottom of the post as it’s always very much appreciated. Plus, what would be really fantastic, is a “Like” on my Facebook page as it’s always great to get new people on board.
