Pre-Wedding Shoot in the Dean Village | Stacy & Murray

I seem to have pre-wedding shoots coming out of my ear at the moment…not literally of course, but you know what I mean :-). That time of the year…busy wedding season now in full swing and a lot of pre-wedding shoots to go along with them. I’m a big fan of pre-wedding shoots – just gets everyone used to being in front of the camera for a bit and seeing how I work…which I hope is a good thing! In turn, I get a good feel for the type of the shots that the guys like, which is a win-win come the wedding day.

Stacy & Murray are getting married in just a few weeks time and it was great to get down to the Dean Village again for the shoot…love it here…totally hidden away in the heart of Edinburgh with lots of quirky places for shots.

    Down in the Village:
An Unusually Sunny Pre-Wedding Shoot in Edinburgh

I love March – march hares, mad hatters, my birthday, Spring around the corner (well, probably) and all that – and, it’s when wedding season really starts kicking into gear and, for me, that usually means a ton of pre-wedding shoots up first. And this month is no exception – 4 pre-wedding shoots on 4 consecutive Saturdays – thanks goodness Spurs seem to play all their games on a Sunday these days (such is the price of success – and I haven’t been able to say that in a long time!)

Anyway, enough football talk, today I’m with Karen & Will on their pre-wedding shoot. I know Karen from my days back working for RBS so I was delighted when she asked me to photograph their wedding which is now less than a couple of months away, and I’m really looking forward to that.

But, pre-wedding shoot it is today and we’re in the Dean Village in the heart of Edinburgh. I’ve shot here a few times before and it’s just a great location, full of old world charm and all that, and I love it. It’s a sunny day (haven’t had too many of those lately) but, such is the location of the Dean Village, set as it is down in the river valley, that most of the sun is high up behind the buildings. So, what to do; well, create your own sun of course, via an off camera flash – I think it looks convincing anyway and provides us with a bit of added drama to some of the shots, backlit as they are by the flash – love it!
