Everyone needs a wee break from time to time, and I’ve just had mine, cruising the beautiful Norwegian fjords for a week. But before all of that, I had one final wedding to shoot to end the first half of the year when, on a gorgeous sunny day at the end of June, I was out on my first-ever visit to Broxmouth Courtyard in Dunbar to shoot Laura & Dave’s big day, and what a day it was too!
22 years ago now, I relocated from London to Scotland and actually lived in Dunbar for just over a year, just a stones throw from the venue, and it really is a fabulous part of the world :-). So here’s hoping to a few more visits to Broxmouth over the coming years then!
So, what about the day itself then? Well, as usual, I kicked off with the prep shots and, with everyone getting ready at the venue, it was easy to move between rooms to capture both the guys and the girls getting ready pre-ceremony … always a bonus when I can do both! From there, the day moved along as planned with the brilliant Tim Maguire conducting the ceremony and me, as usual, just capturing all the goings on in my usual hands-off approach, save of course for the group shots and the couple shoots.
Sometimes, there can be a misconception that I don’t do group shots or couple shoots – not true folks. In fact, they’re very much still an important part of the day – I just like to keep it short & sweet though, so that you’re not away from the party for too long. And so it was then … a handful of group shots followed by a short trip along to the loch for a quick couple shoot with the guys and an after dinner shoot at the nearby beach too before heading back just in time for the evening reception and all the partying!
Anyway, enough waffle from me … as always, the pictures will tell the story of the day better than I can …
Laura & Dave, thank you very much for choosing me to shoot your amazing wedding day! Here’s a few of my own favourite shots which I hope you all like.
Please do leave a comment though … it’s very much appreciated 🙂 – there’s a comment box right at the end of the pics!

Like what you see … want to book me?
If you’re getting married (or know someone who is), then you may just like my “ninja style” (a couple’s words, not mine) low key approach to the day! Most couples tell me they didn’t even notice me for the majority of the day and that suits me … it is your wedding day after all, not a photo-shoot!
My style is very unposed, unfussy and focuses more on documenting your day rather than directing it. Minimal group shots (or even none at all if you prefer) and short couple shoots allow you spend more of the day with the people that matter and have a total blast!
For the past two years, I’ve been recognised by the WPJA as Scotland’s top ranked wedding photojournalist, so you know you’re in safe hands :-).
I’m mainly taking bookings now for 2025 & 2026 but do still have some limited availability for this year too … but I do now only shoot one wedding per weekend so dates can be very limited during peak times. So do get in touch asap guys to check my availability.
Thank you Mike for the wonderful blog post.
You were brilliant on the day, you’ve caught so many moments we didn’t see as the day went on.
You made things easy in the build up and we love the output. Just need to pick what we want for our album now.
Stunning work, Mike! It’s clear you have a real talent for capturing those genuine moments. Looking forward to seeing more of your incredible work!
